A campaign can have valid clicks and still produce fake email addresses, unreachable phone numbers or requests outside the service area. It is tempting to call all of these “Google Ads fraud,” but the distinction matters. Google’s invalid-traffic systems protect against invalid ad interactions; they do not operate your website form or verify every buyer after a click. A service business needs its own form and CRM controls before using submitted-lead counts as a success measure.

Start by classifying the bad leads

Review a small sample of rejected enquiries and mark why each was unusable: automated spam, invalid contact details, wrong service, unserviceable geography, duplicate, or genuine buyer who was not ready. These categories require different fixes. A valid prospect asking for a service you do not offer is not a bot. A sales team that waits two days to call a good lead has a follow-up problem, not a form-validation problem.

Google’s invalid-leads guidance explicitly recommends technical safeguards such as reCAPTCHA, double opt-in and server-side validation. Apply them proportionately. For example, check the structure and regional plausibility of a phone number on the server, reject malformed input, and rate-limit suspicious repeated attempts. Do not publish a private customer record to debug a form. A confirmation email can validate an address, but requiring it before a sales call may slow a time-sensitive service enquiry.

A layered defense

  1. Clear offer: state the exact service and real delivery area before the form.
  2. Minimal fields: collect the contact route and one useful service question, not a long application.
  3. Server checks: validate and safely store input after submission; browser-only checks can be bypassed.
  4. Bot friction: use appropriate challenge or abuse detection without making the form inaccessible.
  5. Confirmation: tell the buyer what happens next and send the request to a monitored queue.
  6. CRM feedback: mark contactable, qualified and won outcomes separately.

A hypothetical Noida repair service might discover many form submissions from places it does not serve. Its first fix could be clearer service-area language and location targeting, followed by a form location field. A B2B firm might see disposable-looking addresses and repeated identical messages; it may need stronger server checks. Neither example is a claimed client result.

Pros and cons of stronger form controls

Pros: Fewer automated records, cleaner sales queues and better feedback for campaign decisions. Cons: Aggressive filters can reject genuine buyers, confirmation steps add friction and maintenance takes developer time. Test on mobile and assistive technology before deploying a challenge to every visitor. Do not claim that one tool makes fraud impossible.

Use downstream outcomes

Report cost per submitted enquiry alongside cost per contactable and qualified lead. If a channel produces cheap forms but few conversations, change the form, offer or campaign based on the rejection pattern. Our PPC management service connects campaign settings to lead quality; the qualifying-response guide covers a different Google-hosted form feature. More practical guidance is in the blog hub.
